Blank Needlepoint Canvas

Some stitchers prefer to create their own needlepoint painted canvas designs on blank needlepoint canvas. Others prefer to work from charted designs.

Alex-Paras NeedleArts offers a full range of blank canvas. These include Congress Cloth, Brown Penelope Canvas, Silk Gauze (limited availability), Petite Point, and Zweigart Mono Deluxe Canvas, all suited for creating your own design.

Professional designers select from different counts depending on how the project should look. An 18 count canvas will provide more detail, but the 13 count canvas is easier to see. Another type of canvas is Congress Cloth which is 24 count evenweave for painting beautiful detailed designs.

Of the three types of canvas: mono, penelope, and interlock, the best type for hand-painted needlework is the mono. Mono canvas comes in a wide variety of mesh counts and colors and has a wide range of manipulation. Penelope has two threads grouped together, but they can be split apart also. The sizing will often reference two numbers, like 10/20.
